Ok If this goes really well, think i might do a puzzle for all you guys in FH every week

all the puzzles will be word related so here goes

Mensa question

QUESTION 1
Sally likes 225 but not 224; she likes 900 but not 800; she likes 144 but not 145. Which does she like:

(a)1600, or
(b)1700

QUESTION 2
If two typists can type two pages in two minutes, how many typists will it take to type 18 pages in six minutes?
3, 4, 6, 12, or 36 ?

QUESTION 1. 1600

QUESTION 2.
1 typist - 1 paper - 1 minute = ratio
1 typist - 18 pages - 6 minutes
1 typist - 3 pages - 1 minute
6 typists -> 18 pages -> 6 minutes.

Question 2 is probably wroong but its late :<

To whoever said they didn't understand the first question, the numbers she likes are squares of numbers. The numbers she doesn't aren't.
15^2 = 225

30^2 = 900

12^2=144

The square root of 1600 = 40

Can also add the digits, eg 2+2+5=9 9+0+0=9
Sally likes odd number totals - not evens.

Ahh, I was thinking of the...ehm, how you call that in eng. 2+2+5 = 9, 9+0+0 = 9, 1+4+4 = 9 aswell....so I was wondering =)

P.S. I suck a lot at maths =)

Question #3

A man bought a horse for £20 and gave in payment a cheque for £30. The horsedealer persuaded a shopkeeper to change the cheque for him, and the buyer, having received his £10 change, rode off on the horse and was not seen again. Later the cheque was found to be valueless, and the horsedealer had to refund the shopkeeper the amount he had received. The horsedealer had himself bought the horse for £10. How much did the horsedealer lose altogether?

(1) Nothing. (2) £20. (3) £10. (4) £30. (5) £40.

Ok...

He did pay out £50 and received £30 which would make a £20 loss...

HOWEVER... He also lost the potential earnings for selling the horse, the resale value of the animal (£20)

Which would make £40 lost imo

On the other hand, he should consider himself lucky I wasn't the shopkeeper... Else he'd have lost his kneecaps too
