Honor System on Friday, good or bad?

All I can see on the US forums are whines ... huge zergs, lag, mages gets all honor with their insta AE spell etc etc

So what do you think will happen in EU on Friday? Will the server crasch within the first hour after the release?

Personally it would have been better if the honor system came sometime in May or something so I could level my Rogue to 60.

What do you think?

Well if I understood correct you will loose honour points if you don't PvP all the time.
I think that's kinda bad, because that means you can't go on a holliday without loosing ground.
Though I think they will change that, but then again I don't know in what rate you fall in rank if you are inactive from PvP.

I havn't read the US boards yet.
But things will calm down, and get fixed later on i guess.
I have faith in Blizzard.

I was watching the weather channel a while ago, apparently American is in the middle of torrential rains - the sky isliterally bleeding. Huge volcanic fissures have opened up and are threatening to engulf entire cities.

The Preisdent of the United States of America, the right honourable George Bush is blaming those terrorists at Blizzard for this "Appo... Appoc... Appak...kolips" (actual quote) - and has launched the US's entire nuclear arsenal at Blizzard's head office, as well as every other country which harbours these dangerous terrorists...

... In other news, a fluffy cat was rescued from a tree by a local choir boy (who had recently been in a civil claims case against the local Priest over sex-abuse claims - the Priest said God commanded him to do it, and is thus - above the law, he also wants his $50 back.)

Or to put it another way, I think the American's are (as usual) full of shit, i'm not saying Honour will be the greatest thing since sliced bread. But you can be pretty sure it won't even be half as bad as those whining pussy-farts are saying it is

Honor degrades over time, so it's not like you will go two weeks on holiday and return with 0 honor. According to Blizz after a few months however you'll lose pretty much all of it. So only active players will be ranked and then only on their recent performance.

Think the first evening is far to early to measure it's succes. Everyone and their dog crammed together around TM/SS so no wonder there was tons of lag ...

yeah no chance to compete if you are not a 24/7 player... i would rather have a system without decreasing ranks where you can get to the same level, in a longer period of time of course but actually you get there.

I would also like to have a system like DAoC tbh, if I get rank 3 for example I would like to stay at that rank even if I take a break for a few months. But noone really knows how it's gonna work atm anyway. Time will tell.

And the other "big" misstake Blizzard are doing is that they didn't implement Battlegrounds at the same time. That would have been the best thing I think.

Totally agree on both points, and to later, I can add that if they had implemented Battlegrounds alot of the PvP would have been there.
Now it forces all players to random gank around in the world and will prolly give ppl who hare questing or farming for some uber drop alot of problem.
But wtf it's PvP so

I think the honour degrading is fine, it wouldnt even make any difference to how the system is designed. i like how the system means there will only be 1 of the highest ranks and getting more and more downwards kinda like a general and his lieutenants(sp?) and then the grunts where i know ill be
I think the main reasoning for this is because hlf the people want to be on a level battleground even if they only put in a few hours a week compared to the more hardcore gamers. where as the hardcore gamers want to have material advantages over these that dont put in as much time. maybe because they are useless at learning new tricks so need it to compete.
the honour system does this imo. because it does give the hradcore gamers who are most likely to be highest in the ranks rewards BUT the armor etc u can get is good but its not super amazingly badass. so it wont give that much of a signifcant advantage over others.
this imo is a nice system and im eager to see how it will work out altho u can almost guarantee at least hlf the people will whine about it in 1 way or another at least for the 1st few months till people get settled into it.

Persoanlly I don't think it will work as a system.

The main problem as I see it is the fact that your rank isn't determined solely by the amount of time and effort you're willing and able to put into the game, but also by how many other people are playing actively.

So you play for an amount of time during one week, and get yourself to a rank where you can buy one of the nice rewards. You could play the exact same amount of time the following week, earning the same amount of honour, and not achieve the rank to be able to continue using your reward simply because other people have played more. That strikes me as being somewhat unreasonable.

Sucks that the ranking is based upon recent events rather than accumulated eh? Sucks that Mr. Joe Schmoe that started playing the game a year later than everyone else also has a shot at the top position if he's really good and persistant?

*laughs*

Seriously; lighten up and try to enjoy the game rather than becoming obsessed with it.

Worried you'll lose ranking if you go away for a month? Go get it back when you return then!

I have to agree with some of you that the honour system in its current form seems a bit flawed and I really hope that Blizzard choose to focus a lot on pvp development and pvp balance during the months to come.

I am however happy that they try to do something to improve pvp (which in its current form is rather dull). From my point of view blizzard really need to put a lot of effort in to this department to be able to compete with for example daoc which imo has a superior pvp system atm (despite frontiers).
