[HELP] VM Detection

Afternoon folks,

I've a couple of software packages that refuse to run under VMWare, stating they will not run via a virtual machine. Both packages are proprietry systems for a company and they're after using them in a VM within a virtual network for training purposes. Typically, the licence agreement they had with the author has 1. expired and 2. so has the author

So, does anyone have a clue if it's possible to hide a package from detecting a virtual machine? And if so, how?

Not sure you can. Perhaps try removing VMWare tools as a starter?

Quite a cunning plan, but alas no joy. Never mind, I might just offer to write them a database to replace it for a small fee or something

Dunno if it would make any difference but have you tried them under a different virtualization package, something like VirualBox. As its an open source theres no extra outlay if it does happen to work, might be worth a try.

This is probably one of those situations where the servers are best left physical - in general databases and virtualization aren't happy bedfellows. Don't they have an old server they can use?

No, but I might donate them one. It's only a small lettings company with not much funds but I've been dying to get rid of an old dual xeon thing I've had taking up room in my cupboard

Will have a look at VirtualBox a little later, I think I've used it before but can't for the life of me remember
