Not sure you can. Perhaps try removing VMWare tools as a starter?

Dunno if it would make any difference but have you tried them under a different virtualization package, something like VirualBox. As its an open source theres no extra outlay if it does happen to work, might be worth a try.

This is probably one of those situations where the servers are best left physical - in general databases and virtualization aren't happy bedfellows. Don't they have an old server they can use?

No, but I might donate them one. It's only a small lettings company with not much funds but I've been dying to get rid of an old dual xeon thing I've had taking up room in my cupboard
