Screen goes black...

Right, now my monitor has started acting up...

every now and then the screen goes black and the LED light starts to flicker..

it SEEMS like theres something wrong with the "power jack" on the monitor. because when i fiddle with that for a while it goes back to normal until i manage to move the cable again.

is there a cheap way of fixing this without having to buy a new monitor?

This a TFT or CRT?

Either way, it's sounding like a dry joint. If you feel up to it, crack it open (excercising huge caution of course, this is very dangerous and shocks from either TFT's or CRTs are very hard to shake off) and resolder the connector just to make sure.

Naturally if it's under warranty, go down that route first.

TFT monitors have a very limited space to work with the power supply, so if it's internal to the monitor (i.e. the kettle lead goes straight into the screen) it could be overheating a bit and the wiggling merely allows it to remake the connection.
