5.1 speaker system

Today I bought a 5.1 speaker system. I'm such an idiot I didn't research into it and just bought them. I think my laptop sound card only supports 2.1.

I've got this laptop Amazon.co.uk: Acer Aspire 5920G Notebook Laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.0GHz, 15.4" TFT, 2GB RAM, 250GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW, Nvidia GeForce 8600M, Dolby Home Theatre Surround Sound, Integ Webcam, WiFi, Vista Home Premium: Electronics & Photo.

Is there a way to utilize all the speakers or am I going to have to buy some sort of adapter to make them all work?

These are the speakers I bought btw. Amazon.co.uk: Logitech X-530 PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 70 Watt (Total) (5.1): Electronics & Photo

Thanks in advance

The Aspire 5920G is part of the world's first full line of Aspire notebooks to feature Dolby® Home Theater™ for truly enhanced cinema-style 5.1-channel surround sound directly through the notebook's impressive Music Note speakers. The powerful subwoofer reproduces low frequencies to strengthen bass beats, deepening audio experiences with full-range sound.

S/PDIF support absorbs you in game and movie action with immersive sound through the home theatre system.
- Acer eAudio Management provides centralised control over notebook audio, and specialised audio modes for movies, music and games.

Sounds like you just need a S/PDIF to Jack convertor that will route the sound out of the Lappy to your home theatre speakers

Thanks, I thought it didn't support 5.1 speakers. Since theres only one audio out slot on it. I need 3 of them. I'll go PC world now to see if they have got a S/PDIF convertor

I just reread what you put. The home theatre speakers are the ones built into the laptop. On the 5.1 speakers I can only get the front 2 speakers + sub to work. That is because I don't have the correct sockets on the laptop soundcard. So I guess I need an external soundcard for the extra sockets.

Will something like this do the job?

Yeah that'd work Dudley. It's Trust branded so probably not the most astounding quality, though it's got the sockets you need.

Anything else you can recommend me? Don't want anything overly expensive (don't wanna pay any more than I paid for the actual speakers). Is the external sound card my only option?
