Hard drive 'overclocking'?

Article discusses how to get a £90 1.5Tb seagate performing similarly to a velociraptor at double the price. I may do it myself when windows 7 comes out, unless there's some decent cheap solid state drives out by then.

It seems a lot like short stroking, something I tried with my HDs in the early part of this year and while it does indeed result in improved access times when using a benchmark I can't say I noticed any thing in actual use.

seagate lost $3bn last financial year. I wouldnt go near them with a barge pole atm. They will be cutting every corner possible.
