Hard drive woes

Wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions..

My brother asked me to have a look at his PC 'cos it was acting funny. He's got a fairly bog standard PC with 1 sata disk in it, on occasion though it fails to boot with a "no system disk" error message after the BIOS screens. After playing with it for a while I can't see any pattern to when it happens, sometimes it boots fine and sometimes it doesnt. If it does boot it works fine.

I've tried replacing the SATA cable and power cable and I've tried the disk in my own PC where it has the same problem.

So my question is this: Is it just a case of binning the disk or is there anything I can do?

err depends on your windows, but it's called Event Viewer and lives in Control Panel under Administrative Tasks iirc. Click system and sort on errors.
