World of Warcraft PvP vs. Dark Age of Camelot PvP

Hey!

Having played the US WOW open beta continously, I got to mid level 25 and done some average roaming PvP. I explored alot, and got as far as into enemy territorium starter towns and frankly - the PvP is utter shit!

What sucks about WoW PVP:

1) You have to type /pvp or attack another pvp-flagged player to do PvP in the first place. This basically means you can go anywhere without having to worry about enemies. Infact, you can exp in Human starter village as an Undead, and the humans can't do much but /rude ya.
2) When you die, you respawn as a ghost very near your corpse, and you can run and resurrect it and fight on (without ress sickness or any similar penalty, except durability loss over time (durability that can be repaired like in D2), only slight health and mana loss). This narrows down to - you can't kill zergs, you can have them move, people will come back in 30 seconds no matter how many times you kill them.
3) There's no purpose. No relics, no realmpoints, no nothing. Zilch. Nada. Infact, the only thing that implies that Undeads are at war with the alliance is the voice joke that says something about dwarves spanking the baboons.
4) ZERG! ZERG ZERG ZERG! ARGH!!
Alliance zering the Barrens.
It's only beta and they are allready zerging. Not good.
5) If you really are interested in PvP, you'll probably have to play on a PvP server - which I have no idea of how works. The PvP on "normal" servers is absolutely hopeless and I'm not even considering on starting on a normal player when WoW hits Eu.
6) Plenty imbalances so far, like one 30 min re-use skill that allows a lvl 22 warrior, with the skill active, to beat the holy crap outa a level 27 warrior with it not active (retaliation) is only the beginning..

Whats good about WoW PVP:

Daoc PvP suckage:

You all probably have opinions about this and I'm not gonna start on that cause it's a dead horse etc (I think)?

Daoc PvP plus:

Constant posotive development, new frontiers speaks for it self, and wether or not you hate to get zerged, you can't frickin stand bonedancers or pre-nerf zerkers - as daoc is today, it's unquestionably the best pvp game to date.




PS: WoW has potential, but so far it's nothing but a PvE game. Cross your fingers, fans. Maybe blizzard gets some sense.

you comment on a non-pvp server? thats like commenting about pvp on pve daoc server with /duel etc...

on PvP servers, contested territory is free-for-alls, and if a horde comes to an alliance land, they cant attack until they are attacked, unless the players pvp flag is off.
pvp is disorganised and pretty shit. oh, and theres no reward. no xp, no coin. not even leather from the corpse if you are a skinner. sucks!

Well, Prydwen is a normal server, and the pvp is fine? Camlann is shit, however.
In WoW you can't have a prydwen-like server, where you can have both pve and pvp. You'd have to do either pvp or pve, and that is just bollox. Besides, you'd have to PvP a bit to feel how really 'tarded it is. Can't really describe it.

Plus I somehow doubt anything will change from lvl 25 to lvl 60 considering differences of thidranki and emain in daoc, wow is always the same..

If you actually bothered to do some research before bashing the game to hell... They haven't even implemented "rvr" zones yet :|

Nah, the game itself is excellent and I love it. The questing and pve system is very grindfree and love-able, however, the current pvp state has to change quick or I won't play and many other won't play.

If they are adding pvp zones thats good of course, but thats only one particle of what is needed for a good pvp game.

you must have played a different game from the one i played then

on pvp server; it works just like rvr in daoc works

if you enter contested territory, you are open to attack from anyone from other realm

if you enter enemy territory, you CANNOT attack them, until they attack you first, or flag pvp (homeland invasion.. which daoc has never had, so you cannot compare)

but in contested territory there are towns, dungeons blah blah, and it works just like daoc.

also you cannot 'accidentally' AE an enemy that is in your 'realm' if he is standing near a mob etc, you have to /pvp first, or otherwise hit him with a single target.. so yes you can have PvE and PvP side by side

and last time i played wow.. it was 2-3 minutes before you can use your ghost to rez your char.. and the death penalty is not implemented afaik.

and yes they will be adding 'reasons' for pvp, starting with being able to buy ELITE ITAMZ from vendors etc, as well as 'ranks' titles blah blah

Ye but don't forget DAoC had no exp rewards, no RAs, nothing in RvR when it came out... Let's cross fingers Blizzard copies some of DAoC's RvR thingies (they did many other things already)

Well, PvP isnt properly implemented yet either, rewards, battlegrounds, PvP penalties, all that shat is yet to come.

They have stated what pvp rewards they will implement soon.

On a PVP server there are 2 types of zones. Contested zones are zones where you can attack everyone, ie. free for all zones. The rest of the zones are owned by either horde or the alliance, here you have to be attacked by a faction enemy before you can fight back.

I personally love the way you can invade any enemy faction land you want, or go in any contested zone you want.

Well thanks for the serious replies, and it seems I must have experienced the worst sides of the pvp (typical my luck) .. thanks for enlightening me and lets hope these changes will be good and soon...
