Darkfall Online
Yet another prospective MMORPGs on the horizon threads...
Darkfall Online promises an open world, where the player can decide what he or she wants to do. Want to take over a kingdom and build cities? Want to be a hired sword and soldier of fortune, letting the wind take you to your next adventure? Want to be an eccentric and filthy rich mercant, crafting exotic armor in a remote area of the world? Want to be a humble farmer, growing herbs for sale on the local market? Apparantely Darkfall promises all of this and much more. Combat is said to be "skill based", translate that as you wish. Where you have to manually swing your weapon (that is- time the attacks), block blows and even dodge arrows. Ranged and magic combat is first person view, you have to aim manually with your bow and the same with casting spells. There is friendly fire, so if a friend is in the way of your arrow or in the area of an AOE attack, it will deal the same damage. Over 6 years in development, will this game just be smoke and mirrors- vaporware? Or do you think it will deliver and be the next surprise in the mmo market? Dicuss. -- Personally I've had an eye on this game for quite some time. Although I think the graphics are very EQ-like and apparantely the inventory management and GUI reminds of UO. That is, I don't like the graphics, but I like the ideas and concepts that this game promises to deliver. If it ever will. This will no doubt draw many PK type players, alot of them will be griefers. If the community holds up and the game actually manages to ship, it's no doubt that this will be a must-try. Because, never judge a book by its cover and all that

I am hoping this isn't "just another mmorpg" since it's come from the creator of UO.
I've been desperately hoping for another game to come along with the flexibility of the character creation in UO and hopefully this will be it.

A new Darkfall Online video came out on friday after 1 year+ since the last one. Worth checking out, I still believe this is the last hope for sandbox model MMOs beside EVE Online. (try telling investors nowdays to put money on sandboxes when quest theme rides like WoW haul in so much cash)

It's full of ideas that seemed good 6 years ago. While I like the IDEA of some of those concepts, the prospect for griefing is way too high.
Get with the times, grandad!

Have to say that does look rather nice, although if this is the best they have to show for 5+ years development (is it 7 now?) then I have to say it's not a good sign.
The whole thing smacks of Dragon Empires....I remember how that ended and god I hope this one doesn't go the same way. Love the concept, always have, but the inception will have to be incredibly good or the whole thing could end up as a griefer-fest
