steinberg cuebase VSTscore is pro editting software designed to be used on a pc thats hooked up to a mixing desk a synth, keyboard etc (sound studio's use it)

traktor ok for mixing cd/mp3 track loads of other out there have used/seen used those piece of software

more info on what you want to do achive and i might be able to piont better/cheaper soft ware

I use cubase for making music, this is a stable version:

Steinberg.Cubase.SX.v3.1.1.944

Theres a cubase 4 also, but havent looked into that yet (and probably wont till i get vista)

Unlike the cubase people I'm cakewalk funboy. I've been using cakewalk 6.0 pro-audio since 97 and love it. At the moment I'm using sonar 6.0 studio (the continuation of cakewalk). The price tag is somewhere at around 350 euros.

You can go for the producer edition but despite having used it I don't really think it worths the extra money. Then again it's all about what you want to do. Take a look at www.cakewalk.com, there used to be a 1 month trial edition when version 6 was launched in autumn, maybe it's still up.
