Right, so it's been a while since we've talked whisky....
I've slowly but surely found my "price range" and slowly but surely starting to
build up a deasent collection, sure there are lots of the more expensive stuff I'd love to have, and maybe could buy, but with my limited economy ...ehehe
if it's ever going to be anything, and if I'm to keep the GF happy, I'm going to "as a general rule" stay within the max! £60 range,
I've added two new additions to my small and humble collection..
- Longrow Gaja Barolo 7yo 55,8 %
- Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13yo 47.80%
on my to buy list is
- North British 1991 Signatory Cask 53.6 %
- Edradour 1994 Cask 57.4 %
- Clynelish 1995 Signatory Cask 58.5 %
- Glenmorangie Astar 57,1%
For Toht,"and other PeatFreaks I can tell you that "within the comming year" Bruichladdich will be releasing thier new "octomore" wich will have a peat level of no less than 80ppm. wich preaty much dwarfs the 55ppm ardbeg wich atm as far as I'm informed is the whisky with the heaviest peat ppm level. they've also distilled a new "octomore" wich reached a ppm of no less than 167! wich is monstrouse!! but it seems this will be vatted with some of the 80ppm octomore so it lands at 135ppm bottled, "according to lynne Lynne mcEwan"
who I had the pleasure of chatting with, prior to our last tasting event here in århus" It wont be "Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig'ish" tho, as the bruichladdich stills are quite slim & tall, so you'll find it a softer smoother spirit then the southern islay's. But still, if peat is your thing, this is about as good as it gets,
However if the "southern Islay" style aka "shorter/fatter still" is your thing
then you might want to try out the Ileach cask strength 58%
It's a "secret" wich distilery suplies the spirit, but a good guess would be Laphroaig or Lagavulin. and it's a youngin at an estimated "5-6yo"
Mr. JJim Murray gave it no less than 97pts in his 2008 whisky bibble, donno if I'd agree, but heh I'm not one to tell Mr Jim Murray that he's wrong
