Fps problems

I have recently formatted my machine. Re-installed Source, and booted it up today to have a wee shotty. And the most fps i was getting in the stress test was 60 - it just seemed to be capped on 60. My previous scores on the stress test were 115.2. I tried fps_max 100 - and that didn't help. Anyone have any advice what so ever?

pc spec is :

AMD 3500+
1 gig Corsair ram
gainward 6800GT (oc-ed to 402/1127)

anyone got any advice?

I assume a pro like you already has v-sync always off right?

V Sync and your Refresh Rate?

Vsync off is utter bollocks by the way. Put your monitor refresh rate at 100, if its good enough, then put vsync on in game.
Result, far smoother game.

Ta throdders and gray - upped the refresh rate - and got the fps to 120.

Bonus free 4 fps

because i just formatted my computer - and i didnt really know that much about refresh rate

I told you. Just turn V-Sync completely off.
