swapping PC - trauma begins
OK, I'm buying a new PC (well, one of Trem's cast-offs) and I could do with knowing how to easily transfer my Steam files and games to the new one. I know I could log-in and download them but I only have a small pipe (ahem..) so would prefer to burn the relevant files to disc.

Are there particular ones I need to copy and are there any gotchas?

Also if I give the old PC to my son, if he logs in with his own steam ID, I assume he'll be able to just play the games?

Steam is easy to copy across. All you need to do is drag the whoe Program Files/Steam directory to the new machine.

Send the steam.exe shortcut to the desktop and it runs like a charm.

My current Steam installation has followed me from my last 4 PC installations.
