And that's without telling them the numerous modifications he's got on it. As for suggesting a car, I'm quite partial to: Mazda RX-7 (First choice) Mitsubishi Evo VI (Second, None of this Subaru crap, either ) Mitsubishi 3000GT (Third) Mitsubishi Galant (I quite like Mitsubishi's )TVR Sagaris (Saw this on 5th Gear, Wow!) Also, be sure to check out www.confused.com, as they go to all sorts of insurance companies for you, just by filling in the fields once.

Who did you get quotes from? I got my 350Z with Privilege for £800, living in West London (no garage) and with a month's speeding ban on my licence. Oh, and a tip, NEVER use the online forms; the people in the call centres have flexibility, web forms don't. I got quoted between 2 and 3 grand for my Z using web forms.

Oh, and if you're gonna drive an S2000, you should consider www.ridedrive.co.uk before you kill yourself

Get a secondhand Boxster they're much better roadsters. Unless all you want to do is pose in which case there's a Z4 waiting for you. Try Tescos for insurance, they insured me for £700 on a Golf GTI (insurance group 15) when I was 22 so will be worth checking out. Otherwise check the back of evo there are plenty of performace car insurance specialists in there.

It should cost more to be honest. The points system on licencing needs to act as a REAL deterrent for people who want to drive silly and/or in silly cars on roads. Not saying you're silly, or the car is silly - but rather people with points on their licenses should be made to pay BIG on engines that will allow them to repeat offend. Should that person desire to insure themselves on a sensible modest car it is only then that points shouldn't affect cost too much: they are, of course, less likely to drive a Micra speeding around than an S2000, for obvious reasons. I understand your situation, and love S2000s, although I find it surprising that you have taken surprise to this. If I were an insurance company, and someone applied for insurance on a fast, sporty iconic car I'd be pretty damn sure in my head they'd want to speed again.

. High insurance premiums on sporty or powerful cars have very little to do with how fast they go, or even how fast the driver's gone before (according to their speeding points), because the insurance companies know that fast cars don't make you go much faster, and they also know they don't make you more likely to have an accident (my best mate's an actuary and we had a long conversation about this); if you're the kind of driver who likes to go fast, you'll do it no matter what kind of car you're in. The thing that whacks up the premium on an S2000 would be a) the age of the driver (because its lack of skill that causes accidents, not speed per se), and b) its much increased propensity to get nicked. Insurance companies increase your premiums if you have speeding points because they can, not because you're a higher risk.
