Always read the small print...

Fucking Audi. When I go to Ireland they won't let me take my car (its a lease). Fair enough, but if I give the car up, the redemption fee for my lease is...10 grand! So I'm stuck with a car I can't take with me but I also can't afford to give up! Answers on a postcard please...

What if it got stolen before you went, or pranged or something?

Can you transfer the lease to another driver?

What the hell kind of shiny mobile are you driving that has a ten grand redemption fee? It better actively release pheremones and melt underwear.

Try the moneysavingexpert forums, maybe someone there can help.

Unfortunately 10 grand may sound a lot, but just imagine how that relates to the depreciation they will suffer.

What if they didnt know you took it with you, and registered it at a friend's address in the UK, and brought it back every 3 months or so so you can keep it on British plates. Would save you a fortune.

Oi Tom, get over to Reader's Cars on PH and fix my Punto!

So why didnt you buy it instead of taking out a loan (lease, same difference) without reading the terms properly? Sorry, but I'm not the twat who insists on driving cars they cant afford outright.

No I'd say you were the twat who keeps sticking his oar into subjects he doesn't have a fucking clue about. You do know, that a lot of the time it is better not to hit "Post Reply" and keep your thoughts to yourself?

Because, smart-arse, I'm required to have a car for my current job, and they give me an allowance for it, and its cheaper from a tax pov to get a lease rather than a company car. Unfortunately I've fallen into a particular circumstance where I want to keep the car, but I'm effectively not allowed to drive it because of the lease company's rules, so I face a penalty that I never expected to face (if my new job was in the UK, I'd just keep the car and carry on paying for it). I don't have a problem with their rules, but it pisses me off that "European Union" doesn't seem to work every time I want to do anything practical. Its not like Ireland is a LHD country or anything.

Of course none of this matters to you because you're capable of 24x7 foresight so you can sit in judgement on the rest of us from whatever fetid little hole in the ground you live in; after all, I assume you don't live in a place with a mortgage, because you wouldn't live anywhere you couldn't afford to buy outright? Right?

Gaffer, I assume you have tried to see if they have offices abroad, the lease might be transferrable. If not do you have a family member of friend who would want to take it over, or someone who works for the same company as you and might have their lease up for renewal.

Chilly, this is what happens when wikipedia gives you the wrong information. Thousands of people a damn site richer than anyone on these forums lease cars for business purposes becauses its economical. Or in an easy-to-read format.

You + This Thread = Fail.

Not that I know much about this having not seen your agreement or purchased a vehicle in this way, but is there some reason why you can't change lease company?

Otherwise surely you can finance it some other way for tax purposes, like a bank loan?

Substitute "Youtube" for "forum" and this becomes most apt for this situation.
