well they arnt emptying the bin mate, what else can they do to fuck me about?
its just going to end up with a situation where the bin will stay outside permanently gathering bags. hopefully someone will complain and then theyl shift it. |

While it is a shit situation, teedles is right. Do not do anything that will piss off binmen. Ask your neighbours if they wouldn't mind taking some of your rubbish next week, and make sure your bin is properly closed for next week.

a weeks worth of waste fills the wheely bin. same for everyone else around here. there isnt anywhere else to put the bags except dump them outside next to the bins.
if i start putting bags in other bins, they wont close. then no ones bin will be getting shifted. if i just dump bags in the street can they prosecute? or pile them up ontop of the bin? |

They are jobworths but.....why didn't you just crush the stuff down and close the lid yourself before you took the bin out?
It seems harsh to me that they didn't empty it and give you a warning about the lid like they did with me once, I now make sure its closed. Chuck everything in black bin bags and simply take your rubbish to a local tip this week, ain't the end of the world.

the lid is literally open about 5cm. its hardly a hazard, its not going to injure anyone, he wont pull his back out with it. there is no reason not to take it, no reasonable reason anyway.
but why should i dump rotten shit into my car and drive 20 miles to get rid of it? surely for that id want a refund on the council tax or money for fuel. |

i can remember the "real" binmen of the 1970's, they actually picked up a metal bin and put it on their backs and then emptied it themselves into the back of the bin wagon, none of this poncy auto lift shit
these were bins..... bss-galvanised-dustbin.jpg real men picked them up |

Secondly, you would get done for dumping/fly-tipping. There's no two ways about it. Then you'd be up in court. Same if you put all your bags out on collection day, especially if your local council operates a no side-waste policy, as many do. The reason the bin lid has to be down, is because if the lid catches on the ram on the back of the lorry, then the bin can and indeed does fall off before it tips, potentially injuring the members of the squad if it falls back on top of them. They would not be going beyond their rights to turn round and sue you. It's in your own interests to comply, as I know more than most what can happen if you don't. Trust me, you don't want to piss off your local council. They are also well within their rights to refuse to empty your bin ever again if you're a problem resident. I've seen it happen. If you need a bigger bin, then I'm sure the council will either provide you with a bigger recycling bin, or a bigger domestic waste bin (small size is 120 litres, standard size is 240 litres, and the biggest one is 360 litres in size). Guess what I do for a living? :P Last edited by Sar; 18th September 2008 at 04:11 PM. |

Did you know the reason why bins used to say "no hot ashes" was because people would regularly empty the ashes from their coal fires into the new rubber bins. On the older metal ones this didn't matter, but the newer ones would melt.
There you go. Learn something every day on here. Oh yeah, binmen work for the council. No more explanations are required.

Oh and your rates only pay for stuff like public services, such as bins, street cleaning and such. They don't pay for council buildings. |

so what do i do with my rubbish then. i cant leave it outside. i cant put it in the bin. they wont empty the bin. ill have to pay more money to travel to the tip and back.
what youre saying is you must pay youre council moneys, but they dont have to give anything back if they dont feel like it. fucking marvellous. btw about it falling off and killing everyone. 5cm is nothing. youd have to tip the bin to near verticle for it to open further from that angle.
