Need a bike!

Due to horrid knee ligament fun and ligament reconstructive surgery on both ankles I'm having to bore the shit out of myself on a daily basis at the gym

So, I figured I'd cut out the exercise bike part of that and buy myself something with real wheels. Problem is I know both fuck and all about bikes and know there's a few of you who have forgotten more than I could ever learn so...

Don't really want to spend more than about 300 quid if I can avoid it. Oh, and I want a decent seat so I can avoid all the erectile dysfunction that goes along with said sport

if you're *really* serious about avoiding the numbness sensation you *could* have, you may be interested in a recumbent style bike: Recumbent bicycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it's more efficient (they say), and if you take one off road I will be inclined to say you're amazing. Insane, but amazing none the less

Funny you should say that, but I'm pretty sure my little brother sold my last one before coming home and saying it was "stolen"

That was 18 years ago

Do you have an employer? Consider that cycle scheme where the employer gets a tax rebate or something, basically you get a cheap bike.

Don't discount Halfords - their range has some good bikes, quality control can be an issue but I've heard a lot of good things about their range.

I had an employer - me. Till I went through the whole wobbly leg/no ankles thing.

Not worked since December. It's bliss. Running short of the moolah now though so may have to consider getting off my increasingly rotund ass and searching for the gainful-type stuff.

Not until I can do 40km without breaking a sweat first tho. Halfords it is!

For £300, I would get this, though I'd consider throwing in an extra £30 to get this slightly better version. I had the first one as my first bike when I got back into cycling, and they are pretty good. Your nearest shop would be Manchester though (assuming you actually are Scouse). If you want something local, have a look for a shop that sells a Kona Dew or Smoke 2-9, they look like decent bikes, and kona is a pretty good make, the frames last pretty well.

They are mountain bikes designed for the city, they aren't really designed for serious mountain biking in any way.
