http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/disp...entPK=12845964
The factory mentioned in that news article is where I work as the IT Manager. Got to go in tomorrow now and see what the damage is like. All I can say is thank God I insisted on taking backup tapes home with me each night ![]() Hopefully not out of a job.

Eek - still they have a lot of contracts to fulfill so maybe they can rent somewhere in the area to work from. It doesnt sound like arson so they'll get insurance cash - looks like your going to be busy tho...

Did you have a full DR plan? If so it should have kicked in immediately, and you should have been called out already!

We're not quite big enough, and neither is the IT budget (Which doesn't exist), to have a physicl DR plan, just a case of, "If everything goes tits up we buy new servers and use the tapes I have"
Maybe this will persude them of a few things I've been trying to tell them. |

Damn, if you supply things to a chain as big as Asda, they probably required you to have a DR plan (as they don't want anything to seriously interrupt the supply of goods to them, Walmart are particularly known for this kind of thing but your contract may predate the takeover), so your company may be in breach of contract, which is obviously bad.
If you don't have a DR plan, you probably don't have hardware replacement agreements, so expect it to take at least a week for you to get IT equipment (especially if you buy from Dull). I really hope that the actual equipment used to make the pastries etc was under a replacement agreement, if it wasn't you may be in the shit as that's specialised equipment that I doubt is easy, or quick, to replace! All businesses, no matter the size, need a DR plan (even if it's only a page long), else you tend to get management running around like headless chickens, and when that calms down you're doing a lot of research/talking to suppliers/landlords that you could have done when the business was up and running, all of which delays the point where you get up and running again! I hope this is a lesson for them which in the end helps everyone, rather than a disaster to all involved! |

It's looking better than it was. All the manufacturing equipment is under replacement insurance as far as I've been told and by some freak of luck the admin side of the building is relativly untouched. So it looks like my servers and most of the desktops are ok.
Was told not to bother coming in today as they're just lugging things across the raod to the other building. Shall see what state we are in tomorrow. If the servers are really bad then I think it'll be a trip to PC world to buy a few P4's and pray they hold together It's only 45 staff usually on my Domain, with this I'm thinking that will be cut to about 10.Tis gonna be fun, although I was kinda hoping the servers were trashed as I could get new kit in then

Hopefully the HSE and the courts will be lenient.
The court case from our last big fire just came through. Record fines rock. ![]() What I do find amusing is that the BBC story says more than 100 firemen attended.........it dosnt mention that they sat in the fecking car-park watching while we put the fire out. The 2nd explosion blew my hat off ffs

Glad to hear that you won't be out of a job! It's probably a good time to push for a proper Business Continuity plan, incorporating Disaster Recovery.

Oh well, teh servers and most of the desktops were untouched. Looking at the devastation of the manufacturing side I can't see how, but apprently the firewall between them and us stopped it all. Everything is back up and running but it's no tlooking to good for the job. Need to wait for the insurance people now.
