did i make a mistake?
was in toys r us today looking for gta4. didnt find it but i did find the hd dvd drives for the 360, reduced from 115 to 40.
i was looking to buy one before but i didnt because of the cost but seeing such a bargain i bought it.

i went into blockbusters to reserve gta4 and i was offered a free rental, and i asked if they had any hd dvd? the woman said no, hd dvd is being stopped and no more new hd dvd will come out.

i dont know if it was accurate or not, so have i made a mistake buying the drive?

Well she was telling the truth, Toshiba the people behind HD-DVD have called it a day so the only HD-DVD's you can buy now are the ones already released (pretty cheap to) not sure how long they will still be around though so get buying if you want some

As Stimpy said, for the price you may as well pick up some HD-DVD titles. They are just as good quality wise as BluRay and even include PiP extras that BlueRay is only just supporting.

any decent websites then for cheap hd-dvd. play etc are all £17, or is this what you meant by cheap?

apparently the drive can "upscale" sd dvd, is this right?
i assume it means i can watch sd dvd in a bit better quality.

Yes,

it will upscale standard 480i content to the max supported over the interface you are using to display.

HD-DVD films will not be pressed from mid-year. As you have a Blu-ray player (ps3) which is profile 2.0 you can buy any Blu-ray disc and enjoy higher bitrates for audio and sound that HD-DVD could offer.

Personally I would have returned the drive and invested in Blu-ray, or at least go buy a cheap £50 HD-DVD player for when the XBOX360 drive fails.

Remember, it wont upscale DVD's over component, it will only scale if you have a 360 with HDMI.

One place I'd recommend is Movietyme with hd-dvd all being region free you're not limited to uk rip-off prices.
