It's pve based, so if yer looking for more rvr its not the game for you. There is some pvp with a Ballista game, but I've not yet tried that.
As for the pve, I think its done pretty well. A good group (or 'party', in ffxi terms) makes things look easy getting decent xp chains and killing higher standard mobs, whereas a bad group is totally chaotic and can be difficult to follow and usually has a few deaths. If you liked the Master Level idea (note : not so much the content, but the idea) of TOA - theres an awful lot of content in FFXI. Parties and alliances of up to three parties doing missions and quests. No zerging here, cant bring 120 people to kill something that a group of 6 can do. The merchants dotted about the game Ive never used, theres an auction house where you buy and sell stuff which is a nice idea, although I'd like more than 7 slots ![]() You could, theoretically (and if you were mad enough) level every single class in the game to 75 with just one character. Ability to switch jobs at any time, and gain a subjob at 18 is quite nice. Even though I dont have my damned magicked skull yet (subjob quest item). Downsides? Same servers as the Americans and Japanese, who have been playing a long time - they can be a bit elitist, and not that noob-friendly when you get into your first party. Con system takes a bit of getting used to, no more chain killing oranges - my 21 Thief concentrates on 'easy prey' (daoc equivalent of green, decent challenge blue, even match yellow, tough orange, very tough red, incredibly tough purple) and can take quite a few before needing to rest...but decent challenges can be touch and go, depending on luck with parries and shield blocks. Overall, if you like pve and like the group dynamics, enjoy getting a party together to work well and face decent challenges - its a good game. If yer a soloist or are after rvr, stick to daoc. Now its the seasoned vets of FFXI turn to come along and say most of what I said was rubbish, this is how it is ![]() Chensin |

Not all NA players are american...
![]() FFXI has a very well worked PvE system I think, the claim system is nice which was unfortunately a really bad flaw with DAoC, when you could just walk up to someone elses mob and start bashing it, doesnt happen on FFXI. ![]() Im on end game stuff now, been hunting some nice lovely NMs and stuff, level 75 monk for teh win! \o/ FFXI <sort of> has an extended PvE system at 75 called merit Points which you can use to imporve stats, skills and other odd things. Oh yes and the term for agro is "hate" or "Enmity". FFXI has an overwhelming amount of content and basically all the jobs can be done on one char, no real need for an alt. ![]() Aurora the LS which was formed on Barrysworld forums a long while ago is now pretty well formed, and we have a lot of members now ranging from levels all over. Dont be scared by the fact that a few of us here are high level atm, youll get there. ![]() /edit: http://www.eddiewalker.net/ffxi/ is my SS archive, some of it anyway, ignore the main site, I abuse my uncles web space.
