Had enough of the flaws and blandness - what do YOU think so far?
Balls to it.
I've had enough and am cancelling my EQ2 sub tonight. Now I've ridiculed people who say "waaah I am spitting dummy out and not playing anymore" in the past. But I found an eloquent post by a lady called Trystwych on VN who summed up pretty much all my frustrations and disappointment with EQ2: http://vnboards.ign.com/EQ2_General_...0/81593010/?89 So I wonder what you think to her comments? How are you finding the game now you're a bit higher level? Personally I levelled four toons (21 Coercer, 22 Shadowknight, 26 Bruiser, 25 Ranger) and whilst I certainly wouldn't call them high level I'd like to think I played enough to grasp the game and give feedback. Don't get me wrong its not all bad - its just bland. My main gripes are the xp debt, the 20+ crushing grind, forced grouping to even enter instances + zones, bland appearance of toons+equipment. I had to ask myself - do I want to grind to 50 or shall I just bugger off and play something I enjoy? Even though I'm in a nice friendly UK guild on Runnyeye (where there's no shortage of people like Splitpaw which is a bit sparse at the moment) I don't have the will to do this. /edit: forgot to add that its a sign that I HUGELY enjoyed by FAR the levels on the Isle of Refuge - 1-6! The newbie zone is great, and up to about 18-20 it was a blast at first. By the way just for reference I solo'd to 50 in DAOC, have played AC1, UO, EQ1, PS, Neocron, AO, EVE so am no stranger to grinds or MMO land ![]() Comments?

I cancelled a few weeks ago which is sad as I had enthusiastically anticipated EQ2 for a couple of years. It does have a lot of good new features yet it also has a ton of bugs.
XP debt just got silly when you hit the 20's - it really discouraged random grouping and forced you to stick with those you know if you really wanted to level which just lead to a lot of anti-social cliques (ok you get this in most mmo's but the locked encounters/no ressing/ no buffing etc in eq2 made it worse). As usual many of the pre-release claims turned out to be crap - equality of utility/desirability of subclasses for instance is just not true - another big letdown was crafting. It was meant to be a seperate path for those who dont enjoy the 'adventurer' route but its impossible to get very far without either your own 'adventurer' pc or a very supportive guild - and after all that equivalent level quest drops are often better than the rare drop required crafted recipes. And the 'rare' spawned rescources were really incredibly rare for stuff that isnt really that good... In the end it just wasnt fun so I left. |

I loved 1-20 on my shaman, bard, sorc and summoner - it was really the most fun! Lots and lots of quests to do, some soloable, some quick easy ones that could be done in a few minutes with a pick up group. Exploring lots of new zones, seeing new monsters and trying out new spells and abilities.
I hated 21+ on all of the above - quests dried up and became time consuming group only, must kill the long respawn mobs that 4 other groups are camping type frustrating, hair-pulling things. Logging in every evening to grind in the same zone because there really was nowhere else to go until I levelled up more. Seeing copy / pastes of the same monsters I had killed a thousand times before, and watching that xp bar move oh so slooowly. Painful! I hated having to delete one of my chars to try out the 1-20 fun with yet another class - the 4 char limit was just the nail in the coffin. :-( |

Dungeons that require a group of 3+ are annoying and leaving a shard in an instanced dungeon was likewise irritating... Additionally the more time you spend in the cities the more you never want to come back to em - when the same NPC hails you in the same way for the millionth time its time to reach for your shotgun... ;P |

Add to this the constant fucking zoning makes for an overall shit game. Ah what was i thinking when i actually bought the fucking peice of crap game. Im a pvper so that was a gamble in itself because once you get to 50 then what? erm yeah exactly nothing! |

Still playing, still enjoying. I read the Trystwych post and yep some of it is true, but as a later poster said none of the points she made were game-killers for me.

Well I'm glad some people are still enjoying it! Misery loves company, but it would be a shame if the whole world was as jaded and hard to please as us lot.
Anyway good luck and have fun to those staying in EQ2. As for me I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the other very long awaited mmorpg that's about to come out is as good as the hype! Failing that there's always catacombs I suppose... |

So is Dark and Light any good then? I had a look on the site and looks canny, but wondered what the gameplay was like.
I'm still on EQ2 but I only play a few nights a week, still enjoying it loads.

I think your enjoyment of EQ2 is largely going to depend on your style of play.
Most of the xp grinders have got bored and quit now 'cos theres still a lot of high level content thats simply not implemented yet. I usually play PvP focused MMO's so I'm really enjoying taking my time through EQ2 without a rush to a PvP endgame ala DAoC. The attention to detail in the landscapes and in the quests (adventure zones like Nek Castle have consistantly blown me away) keep me coming back for more. I personally like the debt sharing, I very rarely have any xp debt 'cos I generally form my own groups so I make sure they're well balanced and I'm not afraid to kick people if they're hopeless (up to level 25 I had a policy of educating people to be better players but my main is 35 now and if you're a tank who doesn't know you need to taunt ALL the time by then you have problems) Character artwork definately needs some love, armour types etc all look a bit too similar. Equally, I'm not someone who was waiting for EQ2 release, in fact I had no intention of playing at all but saw it in the shop on release day and thought 'what the hell'. Maybe if I'd been looking forward with anticipation for the game and certain elements that weren't delivered I'd not be so happy but I went in with no preception of how I thought the game SHOULD be and just enjoyed it the way it is. I daresay DnL (next on my must play list) is going to have to be very, very good to live up to my expectations for it.

- The way it gets you hooked with a fun beginning with then locks you into an insanely slow levelling grind seems to be a setup to retain customers and make sure people don't "finish" it too fast. - Restricting character slots to 4 per account, making people pay extra if they want 8 slots. - Offering people expensive optional "services" on their forums and official web site that quite frankly should be free - Their plans to bring in new dungeons that you have to pay real money to enter. If EQ2 had been designed with more thought to fun and less thought to $$$ I'm sure it might have done as well as WoW. |

Hi,
Just my two-pennies worth.... In my opinion communities build themselves and work by themselves.. I don't want to be forced into interacting with someone to achieve anything in a game. Ok, you'll say ''Sure, but this is a MMORPG''... well, yes it is but sometimes people just want to solo and be alone for a while, like I do. Hmm, I'll craft then, great I can do that alone... hmm, seems I can't do that either without being forced to rely on others. Basically, in a sentence, I pay to play this game and would expect to be able to play in any style I wish and that includes solo. If I want to interact it should be out of choice and not out of necessity. Ah well, all that and the zoning just tarnished the game for me. Oh, and I don't want to have to do the Isle of Refuge EVERY time I make a character UO had it almost perfect until they messed about with the PvP..what a shame
