EQ2 ready for launch?

Hi

Just wondering if any of you guys in beta would give your honest opinion as to wether this game is really ready for launch or not?

I know SOE a little too well after playing SWG for quite some time, and I know it wouldn't keep them awake at night releasing something semi finished. Not sure I have the strength for another 5 months beta for 15 euro a month with items vanishing from my inventory at random

Regards

I have yet to experience the higher lvls, but I would say yes, it's ready for launch! I've never seen this much content at launch in any other game! They are constantly updating the servers and codes to minimize lag. As an example, the large zone just outside of Qeynos (Antonica) a while back only was able to hold 90ish peeps before one started to notice delays. However now the number is up to 300+ in the same zone before one starts to notice the lag! Which is quite impressive Also they said that with the next beta patch the lag in those places will be fixed even more

I find there are a few minor bugs like: Iksar tails clipping into clothing when running and a few UI bugs (mostly resetting bugs), but I'm positive they will be addressed with the next update, or a hotfix.

EDIT: Of course none has yet tried out the new spell system though so will see how that works.

Cheers for your comments, we'll see now, I ordered it!

Looking much forward to getting in the medival mood again, PvP or not. Actually kind of curious as to what that'll mean for the community in game.
Still, though, I'm on the bring PvP in to the game side.

Regards

Spellsinger is on a distinguished road
This the same Ziro, who used to be in SS on Daoc?

And yeah, everything has been polished very nicely and is working alot better then SWG at launch(was apart of SWG beta and there on the first launch day). I am still going to be playing daoc because of the RvR(and other reasons of course), but will also try out EQ2 abit more, why? Because it has alot of content and a great world to explore. Think you will like it, so would love to see you in EQ2 aswell, been a while since we RvR'ed in SS together(lol, if you are the Ziro I am thinking about)

Hope you have a nice PC to play the game on though

Hello, Mirax, yes tis me indeed! Those were the good old days eh
I think my comp will do fine, have 1 gig ram which will prolly be the most important thing, upgraded from 512 because of SWG and it made a huge difference.

Let's see when the servers get up, would be really cool to greet you again in cyberspace

Send my regards to the ol gimps if you see em and hopefully I'll see you in EQ before long.

So much content.....for groups.

Very little to solo when trying to get a group, and what there is to solo gives next to no XP making it worthless.

Havent played in 3 days now.

Ditto, I cancelled my sub after one week. Kept playing for part of the next 2 weeks - got my fury to 24 or so, can't remember now. Since I got invited into the WoW closed beta I've not picked EQ2 up again ... and won't be.

Content at 20+ is almost exclusively aimed at groups, which makes for a pretty dull time logging on and then sitting around waiting for a group. The last night I played I had worked late so had little play time ... sat around for an hour making a group, could only find 3 other people - they were utterly clueless and we had a wipeout on the first pull. The people all then left. End of my playtime.

I also didn't like the way that every Fury, or any other class, would be the same as other members of it's class - with the only differences being due to equipment and which spells had been upgraded. The differences due to racial changes were very limited in scope.

Other things that I didn't like would include the interminable loading screens and all the stupid crash-to-desktop and memory leak problems.

None of these things are problems in WoW. No more EQ2 for me thank goodness

In contrast,

I logged in at Level 24 last night - rather than waiting for a group I started to form one, we had a group up within 30 minutes, that was pretty balanced, we completed everyones AC6 quest and killed the rather large giant. I then took a dinner brake and solo'd the last two blocks of my level doing guild Writs and the quests from the starting zones.

The best groups are the ones you form yourselves, and there is ample solo content (more being added according to the news)

The game was designed so race wouldnt play a large part in the end character, thats why you are starting to see strange combinations of characters - such as my Dark Elf being a fighter with only 13 str, or little gnomes running around in plate hehe

I do agree that the character classes are a little two dimensional, they tried to add some varience with the class traits, but ive also found different people have different stles of play, and I enjoy the role playing with group members even more than the leveling itself.

Never had a crash to desktop, and if you do notice a memory leak and slow down just minimize (or alt tab) then maximise - this will normaly purge the memory, but im sure SoE are getting these fixed.

If you want a relaxing game with no rush to level, no rush to be uber, and no kids trying to be leet, kicking the crap out of other players (or having the crap kicked out of you) I believe EQ2 is the best game around.

I agree

Never been bored for 1 minute, so much to do in this game.

only play this game for a small week now but i luv it!
lots of content, atmosphere and fun
WoW = slicker DAoC
EQ2 = something totally new for me so that's why i'm stickin with EQ2 (for now).

And i agree with tear that i'm kinda fed up with kiddies/whines/l33t/uber stuff that roam the daoc/diablo/WoW forums etc....

so a big 'yes' to EQ2 (from a lvl10 cleric)

Dont get me wrong, theres nothing bad about kiddies/whines/l33t/uber stuff and if you like that then EQ2 will definetly NOT be for you, its a nicely paced game, no rushing and LOADS to do.

I'm glad that people like it and that some people don't mind having to wait 30 minutes to play the game. Not my cup of tea that. Good luck, have fun - but don't pretend the game suits everyone, only have to read these boards or the VN boards to see that the game has lost a fair number of people already in the first month.

As for WoW appealing to the 1337 kiddies etc, I'm 36 and in no way, shape or form 1337
