New player training skills guide

Avdvice one of my Corp members got for us when we started the details are here I think.

You are not stuck with the attributes you get at character creation; however, they will forever determine which skills your character will potentially train the fastest. It is possible to improve your attributes by training the various “Learning” skills. There are eleven learning skills: Two for each attribute and a general learning skill that adds 2% to your attributes per level.

There are 10 skills that increase your attributes by 1 full point per level. The so-called basic set includes “Analytical Mind,” “Empathy,” “Instant Recall,” “Iron Will,” and “Spatial Awareness.” The so-called advanced set includes “Clarity,” “Eidetic Memory,” “Focus,” “Logic,” and “Presence.” By using these attribute-enhancing learning skills it is possible to increase your base attribute by up to 10 points each. The Learning skill adds an additional 2% to your attributes per level. EVE does not display decimals after your attributes, but they are there and they do matter. If you are considering playing the game long term then the learning skills will save you lots and lots of time, allowing your character to progress much more quickly.

Detailed information on the exact calculations behind attributes and how they affect your training times can be found here.

People who are very interested in training the various learning skills often ask what order it would be best to train the skills. Though it does vary slightly character to character, the following list will give you a pretty good idea for the most effective order to train the skills. When you finish this list, you’ll have all five basic skills at level 5, Learning at level 5, and all five advanced skills at level 4.

The Process

For the average player without implants, this process would take about 60 days and you’ll be training 2.36 times as fast as you were to begin with. Though it would eventually be worthwhile to train the advanced learning skills to level 5, it can literally take years to make up the time spent training them. That said, many people do actually max them all out.

Nice copypaste

Anyways it's quite good if you are a settled player with access to fair amounts of ISK. But for a totally new player it'd be quite harsh to use the first full 2 months of playing just training learning skills. Have in mind you also need to train Ship skills and various support / industry / whatever to your liking skills in order to accumulate ISK and move out of the total newbie zones.
Atm on my almost 3 week old char I got all basic training to level 4 and working on industry skills to improve my mining yield. I can fly a cruiser and a tech1 industrial to make decent cash in the start. I'll get working on the advanced learning skills as soon as I can see to afford them (they cost about 4.5mill? ISK each... ouch! )

ofc its a copy and paste - I pointed that out!

I agree it is harsh but if you get a proper corporation most of them will buy you learning books including the advanced ones for free. They should also provide you with basic tech one freighters to run missions and a hauler for mining ops.

It all depends on your corporation and their attitude to you as a new player.

Making isk is the biggest problem in the game and I am still trying to find the best way to do it tbh.

Atm I've got an Osprey for mining and Bagder for hauling for my solo mining ops, selling ore at a nearby station. Planning to move to a better place to mine some better ore for more cash soon.
Gonna wait till I get atleast 1 mill skillpoints before I apply to a corp... don't wanna end up in an unserious one.

edit: and maybe wait the lag out, 5 minutes trying to undock /shrug

well I just got into a corp with IRL friends we are small but at least we all know and trust each other. I cannot imagine the crying some people who play DaoC would make in Eve when a pirate hands their arse on a plate

I'm trying this game out as well.
Got kinda fed up with DAoC and WoW.

Btw. you can create a char with over 200k skillpoints... :P
I like the thought of having quite balanced attribs in the beginning though, since I dont know what I want to do this being my first char and all, so I didn't.

PvP!

That said, you did the right thing (providing you ignored Emp) by balancing your stats. Per/Wil are only so useful for combat types since there's a medley of other skills (Eng, Elec, Prop etc. etc.) that use Int/Mem.

Only other aside, there are a few corps now who will take 2 week old characters and teach them all about PvP. Provide the frigates+equipment, give the lessons.. Good times

Im one of those oldies who had no idea what to put points into at creation, once it was pointed out what is good for what I had 2m skill points. Great thing is unless you have a set idea about what you want to do, you really can't go far wrong no matter what you choose.

Advanced learning books are about 4.5m aye.

The thing i love about EvE is that i can do everything and anything I want too, i started off as a miner, now im focussing on combat but I will always have my barge for when i need to rumble up some fast isk.

Ive been playing for 2 weeks and ive trained or will soon have trained the 5(6) basic learning skills to 4. When that is done im gonna leave learning skills for a while and train some directly usefull skills (already trained some combat skills and can fly cruisers and destroyers). I will go back to learning skills when the skills i want to train are starting to take a long time.

Yeah, that's what I did. Quite fresh aswell, but in 2 weeks time I'm done with learning for good.
Train the basic learning to 4 asap. Then work on combat, mining or whatever direction you want to go with your char. I'm comfortably seated in a Battlecruiser so far and handling lvl 3 missions. With aim to get a battleship next week, building one from minerals I've refined from looting cans in missions. And yes it is A LOT. Also finding my way in lowsec to prepare myself for 0.0 survival, in 0.1 corp atm.
EVE needs mature and good pilots, keeps the wow kidz away

Fly safe, and look me up on Uncarian if you want a chat and some starter advice FH'ers!

You can go to 0.0 anytime. Find a decent corp/alliance and you're most of the way there. Most of my 0.0 kill mails are from frigates (or battlecruisers, bit of a difference ). Knowing how to survive in 0.0 is something better learnt from a teacher than experience (and a lot of isk losses).

As with all things in EVE, only fly what you can afford to lose.
