I recently did the whole download thing, and on isdn, that aint funny, however I think it's been worth it, I just left it going while I was at work.
You could try and find someone who did what I did, but also has a DVD burner to save you the d/l, if you are on dialup or whatever. It's all one big zip, so should work ok. There is also a further 100 and something meg patch to sit through, once you have it installed though. |

I think a Euro release is unlikely.
Most euro customers who want to play, do already. And if they did an official release, they'd have to offer better euro timezone support, ship the comic, run servers this side of the atlantic etc. So it equates to (in their eyes no doubt) a large setup and running cost for very little actual gain.

You can download the manual from their web site as a pdf if you really want it - I did as an 'out of interest'.
Only thing we miss over ehre and can not get is the comic book.

US Servers = More professional service + English speaking playerbase
By the way, I play on a US West coast server and have better connections and less lag than I ever had playing DAoC in Europe. |

more professional ? Maybe for DAOC but SOE (Everquest, SWG) service is shitty.
For english language, I don't care, I speak fluently english, german and french language. I get lower pings on European servers (40 ms) than on US servers (120 ms). I don't even mention the difference of time zone (I've got a job, I can't play the whole night). Last edited by Ning; 18th July 2004 at 04:02 PM. |

There is a large Euro community on Virtue (and a couple of the other servers) so you don't have to play in the middle of the night. In fact, it's better if you don't. By late evening the zones are getting crowded and the servers a little more sluggish than earlier in the evening when the yanks are still working/schooling/hanging about on street corners/whatever else they do during the day.
Unlike an FPS, ping isn't a major issue for MMOGs, even actiony ones like CoH. It's easily playable with 200-300ms pings providing the connection is stable at that. Jobs for Europe? Well, yes... but 15 low paid bods answering support messages and rebooting the servers every couple of days is hardly going to make the difference to anyone's economy. I agree that dedicated euro support, servers and the "free" comic would be preferable, but I don't see it happening. Refusing to play simply because NCsoft don't see the need to do a euro release seems to me to be "cutting off your nose to spite your face". |

If you speak English, what's the issue in playing on a US server? Ping isn't a big deal really - I play virtue with a 280-330 ping and it's smooth and playable. twitch reactions are not a must for MMORPGs in general. It's not like the server shuts down except between 6pm and midnight US time - there's generally plenty of people on when I play (and yes I have a job). |
