My Headache
Posted 14th February 2008 at 01:04 PM by tris-
last thursday i got a sudden intense headache, about a 9 on a scale of 1-10. it lasted till tuesday so i went to the docs at 10am.
i got sent to hospital straight from there. i got an ECG, BP check and blood tests by the care workers.
couple hours later i got examined by a doc and she said i need a CT scan to check for bleeding into the brain. that was pretty fun cos i got wheeled there and back on a chair! i had to lay on a bed very still with a big donut shaped thing which spun around my head taking pics.
few hours later the doc returned and said it didnt show anything, but that i would need a lumbar puncture.
if youve not heard of that, its a procedure which involves putting a needle into the spine and drawing out the fluid. no fucking way i was doing that on my own so i phoned my mam and she came to sit with me.
let me tell you, it aint nice. it took them 4 doses of local anasthetic to numb the area. apparently all my gym work on my back had caused the muscles to get so large it was hampering them!
its quite weird having someone poke needles into your spine, my leg went numb cos she touched a nerve.
they took 4 samples of fluid and i had to lay flat for 4 hours. in the mean time i managed to blag some codiene and was tripping for a while.
i had to stay over night as they found blood in the fluid and wanted to observe me. this was my first hospital stay! more codiene of course was needed, and i fell unconcious at about 12pm.
the next day the rounds doctors came to see me and said i would be refered to a neuro surgeon incase i may of needed an angiogram.
about 8 hours later a neuroscientist came to check me out. i got the all clear! i had not bled into my brain and in her opinion the cause of the headache is benign and could happen again.
i got given a bag of drugs and sent home, at least ill be missing work this weekend.

Weird, since they suppress the effect of adrenaline. Usually you get proscribed them for anxiety issues.
They do make you feel really chilled, but they made my heart rate scary low (45bpm) and you get tired quicker than you should during exercise due to the slower heart rate. |

my headaches are caused spasming of the arteries inside the brain. the neurologist reckons what ever is in em stops them spasming. all i know is they work!
i have noticed i get chilled and tired but at the gym i just keep pushing it on, performance didnt decrease. actually increased this week. |

Not having a headache might help with that.

Well, not having to deal with a headache would naturally improve your perfomance at the gym. (Or in any case, make it feel like less of a strain)
But be careful. Beta blockers is on the IOC blacklist of doping. So if you were planning on going to Beijing as a UK representative in.. pot smoking or whatever. I'd deal with the headaches. ![]() |
