forgotten biking

ooh well once apon a time -aka friday uh or was it wednesday three weeks ago (edit: it actually was 06/09/2008)? or was it three?- eep I really can't remember! Too bad, because I do remember the biking. It started out as a large amount of meh because I had begun a route that I already knew and I was bored. My bike wasn't behaving itself and my right arm was telling me that my bars were slightly out of true. On top of that the sun was setting and I wasn't pleased with the world in general. So I decided to wuss out and go home. On the way back I spotted a track that I hadn't been down before and thought I'd give it a go to break my funk. It worked too. Good for me. My not going home was almost instantly rewarded by being able to spot a stag with a magnificent set of antlers. I wasn't close enough to count the points, but there was a nice moment where he was looking at me riding up the forest path towards him before he decided that I was making too much noise and bounded off into the trees.
There's something magical about riding the racebike in the woods as opposed to the mountainbike. Knowing it's a CX bike and so probably won't break *touches wood* helps, and ofc I stay on the harder paths but still it's faster and quieter that the other though you do bounce around more in the rough and I worry about flats. Anyway, after about a kilometer I got to see another deer and right after that I got a bit of a shock because I thought I was looking at a lion. Yes, a lion o0 There was this big tan coloured thing walking in the middle of the path, and it was huge. I mean proper huge. I was coming up on it from behind and the light was fading, so all I could see was a big light tan thing and the first thing that matched was a friggin lion. So even while shitting bricks the size of small motorcars I decided to see if it actually was a lion and biked closer and closer until I could hear it. It was a cow, my lion. In this case prolly a bull because it had a huge set of horns on, and it was mooing softly as it walked along. Long sad drawn out moos, I can't even begin to describe them, but they felt a bit like whalesong if you know what I mean. Melancholy. The thing had become aware of me by now so it turned off the path and into the trees, which was nice because it was so big that it blocked the path completely and there was no way I could have passed it even if I had dared.
After these adventures I came out of the forest and onto the heather just in time to be able to watch the sunset. Both good and bad, because it was beautiful, but also because it meant I had to get the hell out of there because you're not supposed to be in the parks between sundown and sunup. Anyway I decided to have a wee first so I, uh, graced the nearest tree with my presence and about half way through I emitted a most unmanly squeal as I saw a large tick scuttle across my shoe and up my leg. Valiantly trying to not pass out, I managed to flick the disgusting creature from my leg before it did anything it shouldn't and three seconds later I was on my bike. There's something about parasites that just fills me with loathing and this tick was no exception. A tick's walk, especially when moving towards something that attracts it, aka hot pulsing flesh..filled with yummy nutrients, in this case me, and my blood...is just so horribly eager it is just unreal. Woo, after all that I am pleased to say I got home without further incident
