Storm Front: Jim Butcher

For those of you who have heard of them this is the first book in the series of The Dresden Files, which was a short lived (but quite good) TV series about a wizard living in chicago and working with the police.
If you've seen the show then you'll recognise the story but it's approximately 1 book per episode so theres an awful lot more in the book and (aside from Harry) most of the characters are totally different.
As I said before this is about a wizard who has an office and an ad in the yellow pages "Wizard for hire" kind of thing, which pisses off the magical community that he should be so open about it. He also is a consultant for the police department of unusual crimes, his liason there officer Murphy is a royal pain in the arse and tbh although i mostly enjoyed the book I'd of been happy if she got nailed. There is a good story and a good old fashioned "who dunnit" aswell as some enjoyable characters (toot toot the faery is amusing as is Bob the memory spirit) but these are overshadowed a bit by the irritating characters who are out to get Harry even though they are on the same side, the ones who dont believe the evidence they see (you know the ones, you uswed to get them in the x files a lot).
This kind of story traite really annoys me and for me it spoiled a rather entertaining book, however, if your not as tetchy as I am you'll probably enjoy it and if you have seen the series its deffo worth checking out the books to see the differences.
I have book No. 3 in the series waiting on the shelf but I an undecided whether or not to read it, being a generous soul (haha) I might give Mr Butcher another go, if not for him then for Mister...Harrys giant cat.
