Ratcatcher: James McGee

Posted 28th July 2008 at 02:43 PM by Ezteq
well, what can i say... what a bloody good read!

Set in the early 1800s in london the main blurb on the front cover is "you dont send a gentleman to catch vermin...you send Hawkwood" and its a real rip roaring adventure, the very first chapter has a highwayman robbing a coach of some vital naval papers and then Bow Street runner Matthew Hawkwood is put on the case to track them down.

The story features london low and high life with waifes and pickpockets, prize fighters, pirates and navy higher ups. There is a great involvement with the very first submarine which was invented by an american and almost used in the napolianoic wars (which is a back story) its all fast paced and a bloody good story which has been painstakingly researched, some bits are a little formulaic but its all worth it.

If your after a story to get your teeth in to and would like to learn a little about the lives of the bow street runners then this is the book for you my friends and i personally can't wait to read the sequal.
