My trip to the hospital.......
I have a nut allergy which every now and then catches me unawares, and when i eat something that has traces of nuts in, i get a furry tongue and a lumpy throat. in the past i have taken some piriton and it goes away
But on sunday at about 5.00pm i was merrily eating some chocolates that i got that day from the cadbury shop, it was a big bag of 'mis-shapes'. you know the thing, they cant put them in the proper boxes cos they are all fucked up, but they taste the same, only problem is that you dont know what your eating.
So after 2 toffee ones i pop the 3rd in my mouth and chew away and swallow only to realise the tounge is going funny and i feel a bit odd. Problem is that its worse that normal. a lot worse. i start to get a swollen throat and really bad chest pains. i drove round to my friend who i knew had some piriton (i know, i should keep some at home) but to no avail, its getting worse. So after 5 attemps to persuade me to go to A&E, as a typical bloke i reluctantly agree
Well, turns out i was having a anaphalactic shock, i get rushed straight in and wired up to a drip, a ECG given oxygen and pumped full of steriods and other shit that i cant remember to try to calm the swelling and the bright red rash that had taken over my whole body. Still had a really painful chest which i thought 'it cant get any worse' and then i started shaking, and they asked if i was cold, 'no' i said, 'oh......' and then more stuff got pumped in, i could try and sound cocky and say it was exciting. but it wasn't, i was shitting myself
After about 2 hours things had calmed down but i still had a very bad throat, and was having trouble swallowing. I had to stay in till 1.00am so they could moniter me as the drugs wore off in case they hadn't worked and it all kicked back in again
My friend Richard who made me go to A&E probably saved my life (bit extreme to say so, but.....) and then russell came to take over from him about 7.30 and sat with me till 1.40am and then took me home and made sure i was ok, bless her.
It was only till yesterday that the whole reality of it hit me, all the 'ifs & buts' i was going to just lay down on my bed till the pain had passed, turns out the chest pain was my lungs struggling for oxygen and i could have just passed out, and then god knows what would have happened
So to Rich & Russell, thanks for being there for me in my hour of need, i dont know what i would do without my friend sometimes.....well, all of the time really
Love you both Xxx

How awful. Don't you keep an epi-pen? Or is that the wrong thing? Glad you are ok now. Your dentist' trips pale into insignificance. Take care!

He has got 2 epi -pens now. At last. So if you are ever with Ed and he goes all funny, look in the glove compartment of his car.

its like an episode of bottom in here.
relatively speaking the prick is pretty small. depends where you have to stab it i suppose though. somewhere fleshy and you might not feel anything. though isnt that what she said... |
