I closed up the shop today. I had been sitting inside, watching the rays of sun, shining through the prison like bars of the security door. It was the first time this year the temperature reached 70, and walking to work earlier that day, I felt that this was truly the first day of the season of long nights.

So when I walked out into warm, and the still starless evening. I stopped in the middle of the now deserted street, and took a long, deep breath through my nose. The instantly recognizable and familiar smell. The type of smell you know and love. A smell that comes back to you year after year, and marks the beginning of a special period. Stunned with nostalgia, and taking in the subtle nuances, I stood motionless, starring at the pitch black sky. The potent hint of majestic trees that surround the nearby stadium. The stadium where I spend countless hours as a kid, kicking the ball around. All the work, the wins and losses, the good times and the painful times. Something inexplicable, the special cocktail that makes up the smell of the miracle that is the long nights. I feel myself drifting back to evenings spend at the local lake. My first kiss… I can’t remember her name anymore, yet I can tell you exactly how it felt, how she smelled, even the colour of her top. The first time I drank, having a bottle of vodka all to myself, and after trying to jump out a window at 3 in the morning, ended up on the sofa where I sprayed the before mentioned vodka all over the carpet. The night I lost my virginity, coming home after walking with my girlfriend on a night that smelled just like this. All these great moments in my life, summarized in one deep breath, of a long night’s air.

Right, so from time to time i cut some weight to reach a desired weight class. And while no normal person wants to live on the full diet i have while doing that. I have (through necessity, as a lover of food, but completely inept in the kitchen.) learned a few easy dishes, that wont f00k with teh schedule, and still tastes great. Always perfectly fine for everyday food, when i'm just maintaining and have no need to lose weight.

Today; "Blackjack's, mmm yummy yummy dragonbreath bbq chicken salad".

Very simple; you need.
1 clove of garlic, small/medium
some low fat Crème fraîche based dressing. (Fromage frais/fromage blanc/maquée/kwark. is a no no)
Pre-marinated chicken.
Lettuce.
Cucumber.

First you pour some dressing into a small dish, put alittle more in than you reckon you are going to use for 1 portion.
Now use a garlic presser, to put the clove of garlic into the dressing, and mix it up good. (i usually do this atleast 30 mins before i'm going to need it. As this seems to give a better taste)
Slice up the amount of lettuce you need. And chop up the cucumber. You want some decent size chunks.
slice up the chicken, each slice being about a pinky finger's width.
Heat up a pan, you want that sucker really hot. I use some liquid cooking margarine, that is high on unsaturated fats, and low on saturated fats. (This is good, incase you have no clue what this is.)
Throw on the chicken bits, and fry them well. As you can see in the pic, they are quite well done. But they wont be dry if the pan is hot enough to start with.

Now, make a bed with around half of the lettuce in the deep plate or bowl you want to eat from. And put half of the chopped up cucumber in aswell. Then spread out half of the chicken evenly on the greens, and pour on some dressing.
That done, you simply repeat those steps with the rest of the ingredients so you get 2 similar layers on top of eachother.
And voila, you have a lovely, healthy salad :p The warm chicken and garlic dressing works very well together imho.

You will have to excuse the presentation, but i focus on eating it... not looking at it :p

Next time; Blackjack's, Uhh Ahh, i can't believe it's not a desert, vanilla and banana breakfast.

Alright, so i know we've got quite a few peeps here, who enjoy anime. And from time to time, we have people asking for anime suggestions. So i decided to do short reviews of animes you might not otherwise watch.
There is the "must see" lineup of anime most people get. (Not that i disagree. They are fantastic.)
Naruto
Bleach
Hellsing
Trigun
Ghost in the shell
Death Note
Cowboy Bebob
Samurai Champloo
Neon Genesis
Robotech
Full Metal Alchemist
Wolfs Rain
etc etc. You know the drill.

But i thought i'd do short reviews of some of the anime you might never have heard of, or even skipped because of the name or description.

First off; Yakitate!! Japan; 69 eps [Complete]
This was a surprisingly entertaining anime, despite what it is about... baking bread.
We follow the kindhearted, yet not overly intelligent Azuma Kuzama, who is a bread baking savant, on a quest to create an ubar japanese bread. He joins the prestigious bread company Pantasia (Pan. Being the japanese word for bread.) The "battle-system" is the bread baking battles that take place. And most of the humour comes in the form of peoples reaction to the bread. It has a certain "wtf?! factor" but that only add's to the fun.
There is some puns that your wont get, unless you speak japanese. But most of them aren't that funny to begin with, so you wont be missing out too much.

Eyeshield 21; 145 eps. [Complete]
This anime is about Japanese highschool american football. The protagonist is the small, timid Kobayakawa Sena, who upon entering the Deimon high school, is coincidently recruited for the american football team, lead by the scary QB Hiruma, a very shrewd tactition with a surprising arsenal of weapons, both litterally and figuratively.
Hiruma discovers Senas talent for running when he sees him being chased by bullies.
To stop the other clubs from trying to recruit him, Hiruma makes poor Sena wear an eyeshield to hide his identity, and let him be known purely by the name Eyshield 21. 21 obviously being his number as runningback.
Great series, with some good classic humour and great sporting rivalries.

Prince of Tennis; 178 episodes + 19 OVA's that makes up the last tournament. [Complete]
I never liked tenis irl. So i hesitated when i was first introduced to it. But it became one of my favorites. The cast of characters in this anime, is fantastic, and really makes the show.
Main character is the young, stoic, slightly arrogant Echizen Ryoma. A freshman at the Seigaku school, where they quickly discover his amazing tennis talent, which he has from his father; known in his tennis days as "Samurai Nanjiro"
Seigaku is fighting to win the national championship tournament as the road is littered with comedy and drama. The battles in this, is obviously the tennis matches, that get progressively more unrealistic as the series progress. This is honestly an anime that is truly greater than i can make it sound.

Ouran High Host Club; 26 eps. [Complete] (i'm so gay for liking that show);
Now, this was quite a change for me.
There is no sort of battling going on in this. It's a romantic comedy drama. And when i first got my hands on it, i flat out refused to watch it. As the first thing i saw was the opening theme. And the first frames of the opening theme, is the cast, on a pink background.. with the lyrics "Kiss kiss, fall in love." But as i was really bored, later that week, i decided to give it a shot. And i'm really glad i did.
The protagonist is the polite, intelligent Fujioka Haruhi, a commoner who gets into a high class school on a scholarship, and by pure coincidence joins the Host Club. Consisting of an eclectic cast of handsome men, who all has their specific character trait, a trait that is used to turn up the heat of Ouran High's female population.
For the first many episodes, it's much like a sit com, where it's individual stand alone stories, that is rounded off at the end of the episodes. But although the story is not pushed forward from the start. The relationships and character development is continiously advanced. It's very very well written and well drawn.
And besides all the awesome drama, romance, is the comedy. The whole thing features, cross dressing, homosexuality, sexually suggestive themes and even borderline incestuous relations. Sounds odd, and it is. But it's funny and like Yakitate!! Japan. Has that wonderfull "wtf?! factor" If you can get over your machoness, and get in touch with your feminine side. This is a must see.

I'll probably do a few more. But for now, check those out :p

The year is 2xxx. A race of giant humanoid aliens (Might not look at all like humans. But it's not a spaceblob or a massive spider) has landed on earth. Humans are no longer the top creature, but we are accepted by the aliens, just like we accept birds, horses, dogs and bears. And the aliens view earth like an exotic island, ala the galapagos, and not a potential place to live.

Would humans be pets? Would the aliens see us as a cute species, like we do dogs and cats? Or would they be creeped out by us, like spiders creeps out most people?

We don't have 8 hairy legs. But we do have weird little grabby fingers, and skinny extremities. We only have dense clusters of hair on certain parts of our bodies, unlike most animals. We pose no real threat to anything over 3 times our size, as we don't have claws, and our teeth mostly dull and not venomous.
Our movement is relatively slow, and predictable, as opposed to the spider. Gravity owns us; We can't fly, or walk on walls and ceilings.

Ignoring the fact, that most humans would make terrible pets on account of us being to independent. And would most likely see it as slavery, rather than being a pet.
From a purely anatomical standpoint. Would humans be a cuddly pet? Would we be right there, on the giant fuzzy space couch, watching giant alien Monty Python, on the giant space TV, huddled up with our owner?
Or would we be something, that one really weird alien has in a glass container, and uses to creep out the normalz?

So todays installment of randomness is about the effect of motivation of physical performance, specifically musical motivation.

So, for a while i've felt the effect music has had on my performance when doing various forms of cardio. But i was curious as to just how much of an effect it did have.

(Note. This is not rocket science, just observations)

So, i set out test this.
Started out with 10 mins of warming up, getting my heart rate up etc. Before i started.

First piece of music, was a medium motivator. Got a consistant watt output, with a heartrate of 170-175 bpm.

I then turned the music off (now it was just the music of the gym... which is crap for me.) And it wasn't long before i felt the effects. It felt alot harder, even with the fact that my watt output fell around 20%, and my heartrate INCREASED to around 180-182 bpm.

Put on my headphones again, fired up for a piece of music i find really motivating, and....
Output rocketed to around 28% more;
8% more than the base watt output, while my heartrate FELL again. To 172-176 bpm.

So it did have a physical manifistation, although the main effect is psychological. And i can very much "feel" the difference. A good song will have me performing a great deal better.

This, just on a side note, also works with visualization. If you can get sucked enough into the mindset of the visualization' situation, it will have the same effect.

Anyway... fear the randomness.

Finished, Ginga; Densetsu Weed.
Loved it, worthy sequel.
And of course i cried like a schoolgirl several times.
Now i can only hope they decide to make Ginga; Densetsu Riki. Into an anime aswell.

(Don't worry Nate, i'll give a good rant, once i actually have something to go off about :p)

So, today i spend my day doing abit of editing, going to the gym, and watching Ginga; Densetsu WEED. The sequel to the Ginga; Nagareboshi Gin, anime. Or Silverfang, as i believe they call it in english.

So far i like it. Good enough to bring a tear to my eye, being the hopeless nostalgic i am.
