I can almost certainly say you werent playing on max, by the simple fact it is not just my machine (see the link i posted)
if your on windows XP i can garuntee you, you weren't playing on max

How about we become more specific to save the "misunderstanding"
Crysis on max in game settings (excluding aa and af) is all the options set to Very High
Crysis on max in game settings is all the sliders and settings to very high including AA and AF
neither of which will run on a single 8800 on stock settings (bar possibly a Ultra) at a "smooth" framerate if you attempt to use a resonable resolution (1280x1024 or above, 1680x1050 being the standard nowdays for most mid/mid-high range systems)
