TDM is hugely popular on publics due to the fact that you can play how you like and join/leave as you want. S&D is more of a competitive gametype imo - once you die you're dead - something which I don't think is at all suitable for public servers, unless it is one frequently used by clans to practice for matches.

But hey, I'm just basing these opinions on what I've seen and experienced in other places. If you can put together a solid plan for other types (to show why they're needed), then be my guest.
